1980s–1990s
The first sales systems
Sales started with process and memory before ACT! and Siebel Systems digitised the Rolodex.
CRMs gave leaders visibility but added admin for reps.
Sales became trackable, but not yet intelligent.
2000s
The SaaS boom
Salesforce redefined CRM as a service.
Data became scalable and forecasting precise, but sellers lost time to data entry.
Enablement emerged to guide how teams sold, not just what they tracked.
Data was everywhere, but context was missing.
